Job interview: What is your approach to problem-solving?
Whenever i face a problem, I start by gathering as much information as possible about the issue at hand.
I try to identify the root cause of the problem and the potential consequences of different solutions. Once i have a good understanding of the problem,i brainstorm possible solutions and evaluate each option based on its feasibility, effetiveness, and potential impact on stakeholders. I then choose the best course of action and implement it while monitoring progress to ensure that the solution is effective.
For example, in my previous role as a project manager, my team faced a problem where we were behind schedule and risked missing a critical deadline.
To solve the problem, i first spoke with team members to understand the underlying causes of the delay. Then, i identified a few possible solutions such as extending the deadline, increasing resources, and delegating tasks differently. I evaluated each option and determined that extending the deadline was not feasible, and increasing resources would not necessarily solve the root cause of the problem. Therefore, i chose to delegate tasks differently and prioritize critical tasks to ensure that we would meet the deadline. I monitored progress and adjusted the plan as necessary, and we ultimately delivered the project on time.
